ALOUD,
released July 30, 2011
rising at 6, 7, or 8 and 45
the shower beats me alive
quietly prepping my eggs and toast
sipping java from the roaster i love the most
the wind blows through my hair
as i stroll through the woods and the village, a happy bear
class is relaxo and at the same time its stimulating
at least more than last night's presidential debating
and i ponder the significance
of this life of art making and deliverance
we're all headed into the feed hole
facial expressions show this place taking its toll
in financial aid they're listening to their radios
in admissions nervous 17 yr olds clutch portfolios
outside on the lawn dancers are dancing
though it hardly looks like they are moving
at the co-op we serve dinner for 20
crafted from the local farm's autumn bounty
in the evenings i go to 1800s russia as an old man
and the director demonstrates fopishly with a lacy fan
then i literally go back to the drawing board
to draw an imagined version of my past
in order to inform my actual future
then back at home over tea and toast
that's when i think of her the most
i get into the sheets, put on badger balm
then crash into dreamland, tranquil and calm
